Student Success Statement- Dean Smith
"I wasn't trying to leave a legacy. I was trying to do what was right."
Quote by Dean Smith
I understand what Dean Smith was saying in this quote. Dean Smith wasn't leaving a legacy of his amazing career he had coaching, he was choosing the right thing to leave. He wasn't trying to get more money but he said that if he ever felt he couldn't give the players or people the enthusiasm like before than he would retire. Dean Smith had a great influence on the basketball program once he retired and they made a book about him. Years after he said he had "progressive neurocognitive disorder" and had trouble remembering things. Dean Smith retired for the right thing, not to get more money or leave his legacy. Dean Smith was choosing the right thing and good things happened to him by calling the Basketball Stadium after him. Always choose the right and good things will happen to you too.
